Pyramids & Pita Pockets

It’s been a busy couple of days at work, and I really haven’t had time for much of anything!  I’m so glad the weekend is here!  A lengthy Victoria Day weekend, at that!

Yesterday’s group fitness class was pretty fun.  I incorporated a couple of circuits into the hour session, including this one.  We only did one full rotation, since this was towards the end of a long class, but as suggested below, I recommend going through the cycle 3 times.

Lean Leg Pyramid

  • Start at the left hand side of the pyramid, working your way up to the peak and back down the right hand side.
  • No breaks throughout rotation.
  • Repeat times, with a 1-2 minute break between each rotation.

Lean Leg Pyramid Exercise Picture Demos:

Plié Squat
(Note: Bottom Half Pulses are roughly only 1-2″ movements, all within position #2)

Lateral Leg Lifts
Be sure not to swing.  Lift and squeeze.

Static Lunges
Ensure that your knee does not go past your ankle!

Toe Touches
More tiring than it looks!  When you bring your foot back to the floor, just touch off with your toes (not full sole). Make sure to maintain your form throughout.

After fitness class, I made a protein smoothie to tide me over until dinner, as I wanted to take Macy for a walk first!
Mango-Berry Protein Smoothie
1/2 mango (fresh)
5-6 whole strawberries (frozen)
1 scoop vanilla vegan protein powder
1/2 cup natural berry yogurt (any flavour)
1/2 cup organic pomegranate-cherry juice
I usually use almond milk in my protein smoothies, so this juice was a nice change!
Adam had a work function last night, so I was on my own for dinner.  You know that feeling when you are soooo tired, and you just want to eat a bowl of cereal and call it a night?  Guess we could also call that ‘acceptable laziness’.  Anyway, that was completely how I was feeling.  However, I sucked it up and tossed together something a little more substantial, not to mention necessary after a long day and a tough workout:
Whole Grain Pita Pocket Stuffed with:
grilled chicken
sautéed red peppers, mushrooms, white onion
brown rice with black beans
romaine lettuce
organic salsa
I like to cut the top off my pita pocket like so in order to stuff the most deliciousness inside:
However, I am pretty sure I would be fired from the Pita Pit in a day, as no matter what I do, my pita  always turns out looking like this and requiring a fork!  Still tasty though, and a healthy/easy dinner option.
Act of Kindness:
Flowers from a coworker for helping her out this week while she was out sick.  So thoughtful!
Well, it is a rainy and quiet Friday night in for us!  We’re all pretty tired around here:
Macy ran through the backyard mud and then I found her passed out cold turkey in our unmade bed!  Gross! This definitely requires some laundry and a doggie bath!
I’m hunkering in with my anatomy textbook and some tea and dark chocolate!  Have a great night :)
