We had quite the weekend of wild weather here in Brisbane! Luckily we hadn’t made any plans, seeing as I could technically have a knock at the door from motherhood at any moment. Between the relentless rain and wind, it was pretty crazy. We were safe here, as were most people in the CBD. We just had to drain the pool several times so that it wouldn’t overflow and tie down all of our outdoor furniture.
Temperatures were also a bit cooler; I was pretty grateful to have a break from the consistent summer heat! So, naturally we spent the weekend hunkered indoors watching an array of movies, catching up on missed American Idol Season 13 episodes (me), and almost a full season of Dexter.
We also had a double-date night with our friends consisting of gourmet burgers and a movie: Django Unchained. Adam was worried that I wouldn’t like it due to the violence and language. However, I actually really enjoyed it! It’s a typical, quirky Tarantino movie; the severe and disturbing aspects are offset by some hysterical moments. Plus, anything Mr. Leo D signs up for is good in my books! It has racked up several Oscar nominations, and I look forward to seeing how it stands against the competition.
My friend Karen introduced me to my favourite new movie treat (besides popcorn, of course): Darrell Lee Strawberry Liquorish Bites. For my North American friends, these are like Nibs but waaay better! Healthy? Not so much. Oops! There is a time and a place for treats though…this weekend was one of them!
Besides a yoga class on Saturday, I took the weekend off exercise. Your body knows when it requires a little rest. At 37 weeks pregnant, I definitely felt that a break was necessary for a couple days! We took a trip to the mall on Monday (it was a holiday for Adam) so that I could get a little bit of walking in, seeing as though outside activity was off limits. I’ve been on the hunt for quality boy short underwear for soooo long now. Victoria’s Secret used to carry the most amazing ones (I bought 4 pairs at the time). Sadly, I haven’t been able to find anything comparable since…until I decided to look in Target, of all places, this weekend.
|Target Seamfree Boyleg: $10/pair
(They are currently on sale for $7)
These seamless, lightweight, super soft boy shorts are fan-freakin-tastic. They’re perfect for sleeping, under flowy casual dresses, when you’re pregnant and are dying to just be comfortable…etc. Now, they may look like they are from your husband’s/boyfriend’s underwear drawer, but they are soooo much nicer! I may need to go back and stock up. 5 stars! Ladies- you know what it’s like to find perfect underwear, so bear with my enthusiasm!
Another weekend favourite:
Banana-Pineapple Protein Smoothie
|Banana, Pineapple Juice, Whey Protein, Vanilla Yogurt, Chia Seeds, Ice Cubes
As you may know, I pretty much a smoothie fanatic. I’ve been making a lot of milk based ones lately so I thought I’d mix it up and try for a more tropical juice inspired drink. I’ve fallen in love! I don’t know what it is about pineapple juice, but it always reminds me of vacationing in the Caribbean. Happy times!
I actually just got back from swimming laps and grocery shopping, so I’m going to wrap things up for the evening and start thinking about making some dinner. We’re having fish quesadillas- Adam’s request! I make a similar version all the time, but I’m changing it up with basa instead of tilapia and replacing the red onion with yellow onion (I’ve not been a fan of red onion throughout my pregnancy).
