Let’s Play Twenty Questions

It seems like there are so many surveys floating around the blogosphere this week! I thought I’d join the in crowd and jump on this questionnaire bandwagon. Seems like fun for a Thursday. Plus, my mind is basically mush after the past week or more whilst in the company of one cranky baby boy; a writing prompt is definitely welcomed!

Healthy Lifestyle Survey

1. What did you eat for breakfast?
Today I had one of my oatmeal bowls; it’s my favourite quick and easy breakfast. It’s a heavier one, so I can only eat it on non-workout mornings!

2. How much water do you drink a day?
I’m not sure…probably not as much as a should. Seriously though, do people actually keep track of this? 

3. What is your current favorite workout?
Resistance circuits with cardio bursts mixed in. 

4. How many calories do you eat a day?
I once read about how Carrie Underwood has a book in which she records all of her consumed food so that she can keep track of her calorie intake. I did this for two weeks at the beginning of my bootcamp, but that was all I could handle! I felt like it was too obsessive. Also, since moving to Australia, everything is measured in Kcal (kilocalories), so now I really can’t be bothered with the conversion process. I have a good idea of what is healthy or what has an exorbitant amount of calories, so just choose accordingly. If I want to eat an ice cream sandwich one day, I’d rather enjoy my chocolatey moment rather than thinking about its nutritional content. 

5. What are your favorite healthy snacks?
Fruit Smoothies, Apple/Cottage Cheese/Cinnamon, Chobani flavoured greek yogurt, Edamame, and homemade snacks like my larabars or peanut butter-banana oatmeal squares.

6. What is your favorite body part to strength train?
Legs. Mostly because I naturally have fairly strong legs and so it’s easier for me 😉 

7. What is your least favorite body part to strength train?
Triceps. My nemesis! Also, since pregnancy, I have a tough time with core stability like the plank. I’m still working to build back core strength, so it’s very challenging!

8. What are your “bad” food cravings?
Anything that involves chocolate. I don’t think it’s really ‘bad’ though as long as it’s in moderation. Right?!!

9. Do you take vitamins or supplements?
Omega 3 and Vitamin D. I also use organic brown rice protein in my smoothies.

10. What do you usually eat for lunch?
Sandwichs, Soups, Salads, Tuna & Crackers, or an Omelette/Egg Scramble.

11. How often do you eat out?
We usually go out to eat once a week for dinner- either Friday or Saturday night. 

12. Do you eat fast food?
Not lately. The last time I ate fast food was almost a year ago. I was about 14 weeks pregnant and all I could think about was chicken nuggets and french fries. There was no shaking the craving, so I actually sat in a drive through line up for 15 minutes waiting for my nugget combo meal. By myself. Embarrassing, but true. I then felt very sick afterwards, and that was the end of my fast food consumption. Fast food chains are not nearly as prevalent and popular here in Australia as they are back in Canada and the States.

13. Who is your biggest supporter?
My parents and Adam. My girlfriends back in Canada have been so supportive over the past year as well. I receive daily emails and texts from them, just checking in on Thomas and I!

14. Do you have a gym membership?
Yes, but it hasn’t been put to good use lately. It’s tough juggling the day care hours, and I don’t like taking Thomas when it’s jam-packed. He’s still so little. 

15. How many hours of sleep do you get a night?
Okay, we’re not going to talk about this today!!! Or week. Or month… #touchysubjectthesedays

I’ll tell you WHO has been having some great sleeps, though! Taking over the world, one bed at a time. 

16. Do you have a “cheat” day?

Nah, I’d rather have one treat per day than binge on garbage food for one entire day.

17. Do you drink alcohol?
What a silly question!


18. Do you have a workout buddy?

Not consistently. I kind of prefer to be a gym loner. Although, I DO really enjoy group fitness classes and bootcamp, or getting together with a friend for a workout every so often. 

19. What is the best thing that has changed about your life since committing to a healthy lifestyle?
Besides a brief period in university (hello, garlic fingers and vodka coolers!), I think I’ve always led a fairly active and healthy lifestyle. I’ve just learned to balance things a bit better. When you create balance in your exercise, eating, and daily rituals, everything kind of just falls into place.

20. What was the last healthy thing you did?
I made time for a FaceTime date this afternoon with one of my best girlfriends, Alison. I think when people hear the word “healthy”, they automatically think: food or fitness. We oftentimes forget about mental health and happiness. Living so far away from home, I need these moments to maintain sanity and keep homesickness under control!
