Happy Saturday! Nothing spectacular going on around these parts. As you know, I’ve been under the weather, so I’m still in recovery mode. This short & sweet fitness survey is floating around the blogging world, and I thought I would take advantage of the available writing prompt. Creativity at its finest today, folks. I’m sick and shameless!
1. Run or Walk?
I definitely prefer to go running! I do enjoy going for a walk, but I don’t typically count it as my daily workout. Walking definitely is great exercise though, and it was one of my favourite ways to workout when I was pregnant.
2. Treadmill or Elliptical?
I’m not a huge fan of cardio equipment, as I find it so boring. I did use the treadmill all the time when I lived in Calgary and did interval training, which helps to pass the time and is a great workout. Sometimes the elliptical makes my feet fall asleep. Anyone else? It’s nice living in Australia, as you can do cardio outside year round. Because of this, I haven’t used the treadmill or elliptical machine in a quite awhile, but I’m sure they’ll enter my workout regime again someday.
3. Longest distance you’ve ever run?
In all my years, I don’t think I have ever run more than 12 or 13 kilometres in one outing! I’ve never been much of a racer, so haven’t felt motivated to run any longer than that. “10k” is probably my magic number where I don’t have to train for it and feel great the entire time. Apparently when you play soccer at a high level, you run about 10km in a game. So maybe it’s a subconscious thing for me from all of my soccer playing years.
4. # of days/week you work out?
Currently? About four. I’d like to get a fifth one in there, especially now that Thomas is older and can enjoy his one-hour of childcare at the gym. On my off-days, I try to stay active, just not necessarily in workout gear.
5. Favourite Cold Weather & Hot Weather Food?
Cold weather- soup, lasagnas/bakes, curry, and warm beverages.
Hot weather- summery salads and smoothies.
6. Do you lift weights?
Yessir! I don’t lift heavy, but I try to challenge and fatigue my muscles without putting too much stress on my joints. Body weight exercises are also very effective. Strength training is so so so important for everyone.7. Is there a race you want to participate in?
I definitely would like to get over my long-distance running aversion and train for a half marathon. The Gold Coast 1/2 and San Francisco 1/2 are two that I would love to participate in someday. I’ve done some 5k, 8k, and 10k races before, but I’d like to make a point of doing them more often. It’s always amazing to take part in events with so many likeminded people, no matter the distance.
8. What is your favourite workout?
It’s important to me that I mix things up regularly. If I just went to the gym everyday and did cardio and repeated a weight routine over and over, I would be bored out of my mind (and would never see new results). Currently, I am enjoying bootcamp, Body Attack, and Body Pump group fitness classes. Other workout faves are running, spin class, yoga, lap swimming, hiking (missing my Rocky Mountains!), kickboxing, and taking a month or two and following a new gym strength training program.
9. Favourite Sports?
To Play Competitively: Soccer
To Play Recreationally: Volleyball
To Watch: Basketball, Hockey, Soccer, and almost all Olympic events
To Pretend I Understand: Aussie Rules Football
And that’s all she wrote! And now I must tag five healthy living bloggers who I think should participate in this fitness survey, too. I hate when they do that, but I guess I’ll play along. (Randomly selecting from my Bloglovin’ Roll…) Hillary, Meredith, Cori, Sarah, Heather aaaaand anyone else who is reading this! Yah, surveys! 😉
Hope you are all having a great weekend!
