Here are a few of my favourites for this month!
I’ve been on a cereal and fruit kick the past few weeks. I do this with breakfasts. I’ll have a go-to favourite, and eat it every single day until I get sick of it and move onto something else for awhile. Weekends are when I try to diversify because we usually aren’t trying to rush out the door, and I can have more time in the kitchen while Adam entertains Thomas.
I’m choosing a tried-and-true dinner vegetable this month: the green bean. I know this sounds silly, but they are a veggie that I have routinely forgotten about in the past. However, lately we’ve re-kindled out relationship, and it’s been on our plates at least once or twice a week (as a side dish or in salads).
A Chobani a day, keeps the doctor away. Some things never change.
This month, I’ve been loving partner boxing at bootcamp. It’s the most incredible, high-intensity workout for your entire body. Whenever we do a boxing segment, I always come away from the class feeling completely spent (in the best way possible).
Body Part Focus
I’ve been working on my core strength this month. Even after almost 8 months postpartum, my abdominal strength is still not back to where it was pre-pregnancy. I’ve definitely noticed an improvement in my ability to hold the plank for an extended period of time. I’d rather do burpees than hold plank position, but I’m working on it!
The temperature is rising in Brisbane (it was 34°C today), so I’ve been trying to maintain a steady intake of water. Boring, right? It’s actually been my beverage of choice all day, every day, minus a cup of coffee or glass of wine here and there! I can definitely notice a huge difference when I have not been drinking enough H2O. I start feeling sluggish and think I’m hungry when I’m really just quite thirsty.
I’m loving this whole “eating solid foods” stage. It’s been fun preparing lots of different meals for Thomas and seeing his face when he tries foods for the first time. His favourites so far are cantaloupe, banana, yogurt, couscous, sweet potato, and salmon! Dislikes: ground beef. He’s definitely my son!
Okay, so I ordered these Tory Burch Thora sandals in August from Nordstrom, and it was the best decision ever! They were a little more than I’d normally pay for sandals, but I’ve definitely got my money’s worth out of them, and it’s only been 2 months! If I am not wearing my running shoes, I’m in these. They go with pretty much everything, are dressier than Havianas, and are still practical for running errands with an infant.
Top knot. All the time. It’s mostly due to the fact that Thomas has an obsession with pulling my hair as hard as he possibly can these days, so it makes things a bit easier and is a nice change from my workout ponytail! Maybe someday soon I will have an excuse to bust out the curl stick, but for now, my 5-minute-get-ready-and-out-the-door-with-a-baby routine can’t accommodate it.
I’ve been the worst reader this month. The only book that entered my radar was a stupid sleep book (The Happiest Baby Guide to Great Sleep). I didn’t read a single self-help book during my pregnancy or up until recently, but we were having a troublesome few weeks with Thomas and transitioning him to his own bedroom, so I was hoping this would help. I think there might have been one useful page out of the entire book, but otherwise it was a waste of my free-time (which is rare these days, hence my disappointment).
And for the record, he just started sleeping through the night this week (!!!!!!!!!!!), without any of the suggested techniques from the book. I honestly believe in trusting your own motherly instincts and talking to close friends and family about their personal experiences in order to guide your decisions. I don’t find these parenting “manuals” particularly uplifting, and have no intentions on adding any more to my sparse collection.
Okay, so this is definitely not a luxury or glam item. I’m not even sure it can be considered a true beauty product. BUT it deserves to be my monthly fave. Even yearly! After doing some reading and research about the potential negative effects of antiperspirants, I decided that I don’t want to use them anymore. I began experimenting with a few different ‘natural’ deodorants instead, because, let’s face it- I can’t go around sporting the au natural. Not my thing.
The problem? I felt like every brand I tried actually made me smell worse than if I was to sweat all day wearing no deodorant at all! Eww. Anyway, after seeing LaVanila’s: The Healthy Deodorant featured as one of Amanda’s favourite items many months ago, I decided to order it from Sephora while at home in Canada, but just started using it a few weeks ago. Honestly, it’s been a game changer! I only ordered one (Vanilla Coconut) because they are pricey, just to see if I liked it or not. It’s the first natural deodorant that actually smells amazing and seems to have a great chemical mix with my body. I have no idea whether or not I can get it here in Australia, but I’ll definitely be finding ways to get more into my possession!
Loving these Circa Home diffusers. I have them in Coconut & Orris Root and Ginger & Ylang Ylang; a trip to the bathroom never smelled so good!
I’ve been doing the country thing this month. Still listening to George Strait’s Love Is Everything and Luke Bryan’s Crash My Party albums. Nothing in particular for workout tunes, however Katy Perry’s newer stuff is pumping me up these days. However, no matter what kind of music I’m listening to, I still find my brain repeating Shoo Fly or The Farmer In The Dell. Thanks a lot, Baby Einstein.
I’m finding my source of GP through the Bachelor Australia. The show doesn’t go into as much depth as the American version, and only lasts an hour a week. However, it’s pretty funny and successfully meets my trash-tv requirements. I’m sure since this is only the first season, it’ll keep getting better.
– New Running Shoes- Still haven’t gotten around to this, but it’s getting desperate.
– Water Bottle- You know Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer Christmas cartoon, and the Island of Misfit Toys? I am pretty sure there is a similar island that houses all of my missing water bottles. Someone let me know if you find them.
– A new maxi dress or two- They are perfect for running errands and other daytime activities when it’s warm.
Things I am Looking Forward To (in the next 30 days)
– My Les Mills Body Attack Instructor Training next weekend!
– A trip to Hamilton Island with Adam, Margaret (my mother-in-law), and Thomas!
That’s it for October, folks! Now tell me:
What is on your current wish list?
