November Favourites

It’s hard to believe that December is upon us. Particularly for this Canadian turned Aussie. After 27 years of white Christmases in the snowy north, I am still having a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that it’ll soon be the holiday season. As I got into my car this morning, “Santa Clause is Coming to Town” was playing on the radio and my dashboard read “37˚C”. So, so strange.

Anyway, it’s the end of the month, which means it’s time for my November favourites. I started this post series in October, and hoping to keep it a consistent trend each month!

Breakfast

This month I went back to my tried and true: stovetop oats. Quick, old-fashioned, or steel cut…I’m on it. I used to go a little overboard with ingredients, and although I’m all for a hardy breakky, it was too much for my belly (especially if I was having a morning working). These days, I’ve been stirring in a little brown sugar, cinnamon, walnuts, and skim milk, and always top with fruit like mango, banana, kiwi, or mixed berries. NomNomNom.

Dinner Item

We have gone back to our roots (literally and figuratively: Adam’s dad is a potato farmer). I believe I went a long time without eating potatoes, for no particular reason other than forgetting to incorporate them into our meal plans. However, they’ve made their way into several dinners this month.

Snack

I’m turning this snack category into ‘dessert’. Yogurt (greek and regular) + chocolate chips + chia seeds = my ice cream alternative these days. I’ve been getting major sweet cravings lately, and this always does the trick.

Workout

I’ve been doing a lot of Body Attack’ing throughout November in preparation for my teacher shadowing which begins next week. I’m pretty nervous, as it’s a packed class with an amazing instructor, and I am worried about messing with the vibe. One of my main focuses has been improving my push ups, both regular and triceps, as it’s my definite weak point!

Body Part Focus

As stated above, triceps! Speaking of which, I need to post a triceps-focused workout. Next week!

Beverage

I’m not normally a juice drinker, but I’ve been loving a glass of Nudie 100% orange juice with breakfast some mornings. I started drinking it when I was sick a little while ago, and it’s been in my grocery cart ever since.

Baby Related

So I realize that infants grow rapidly, but November was our biggest month for changes so far! Thomas turned into a speed demon crawler, pulling himself up on furniture and walls, moving from one piece of furniture to another, trying to climb people, entertaining himself with insane laughter, and chatting up a storm. Today he even took 3 steps while pushing his Chico walker! He does wake up at 5am on the dot every day, and has been crying incessantly lately due to four!!! teeth coming in at the same time. So, that’s been a bit exhausting for me. However, he is otherwise such a happy little guy, loves smiling, and has learned to play peek-a-book by covering/uncovering his own face with a blanket. Ohhh, my heart!!!

By the way, this photo pretty much sums up Thomas’s 9-month photo session {I do one every month}. One word: impossible.

Clothing Item

I wanted to give a shout out to my Lunar Glides. It’s been over a month of wear and tear, and I couldn’t be happier with this shoe purchase. They are perfect! Running, walking, plyometrics, group fitness…they fit the bill for all of my fitness activities.

Hairstyle

After washing it, I’ve been letting my hair air dry for a while, and then putting it into a loose bun so that it dries with a slight wave. My hair appliances haven’t seen much daylight this month.

Reading Material

I’m finally beginning Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali, which has been collecting dust since August. I’ve really been looking forward to reading it, and will hopefully have a solid update in my December Faves post. Otherwise, I’ve been doing lots of news, blog, and of course, daily reading to the Bubs.

Blog of the Month

Although I discovered her blog awhile ago, I’ve been loving all of Sarah’s posts at Making Thyme for Health. She has so many fantastic, healthy recipes and takes beautiful photos. Plus, she shares my passion for group fitness classes!

Beauty Product

On a layover in Singapore, Adam replenished my perfume collection at the duty free store. Viktor and Rolf has been my go-to scent for the past two years, but I ran out back in June and couldn’t handle the price of it here in Australia. I’ve been using others in the meantime, but I’m so happy to have this one back in my life (even if I don’t wear it daily).

Household Item

Our new dining table! When we moved to Brisbane, we bought a small one from Ikea that fit our rental home, but didn’t look so great in our new place we moved into a couple months ago. We opted to purchase a decent table that will last us for a while, and were excited to buy our first piece of Australian made furniture! Adam loved Tasmanian blackwood, so that’s what we went with.

Seriously. It brings back SO many amazing holiday memories as a kid and thought it would be fun to play for Thomas. I haven’t hit ‘play’ yet, though. Waiting for December to roll around first!

Guilty Pleasure

Day time napping. I’m not normally a napper {I prefer to have some quiet time to get things done}, but there were several times this month that I got a solid hour of shut eye while Thomas was asleep. Some of those days I actually went from feeling bitter and grouchy to a completely changed person. Sleep really does wonders for your mood!

Wish List

  • # 3 and #4 on my Stocking Stuffer list.
  • A massage and a facial and a pedicure and a manicure…or just the entire spa, please and thanks.

 What I’m Proud of this Month

Finally feeling ‘okay with myself’ in a bathing suit again. I’m not entirely sure if my body will ever be the same as it was before having a baby, but it’s definitely nice to get to the point of acceptance with yourself.

Areas for Improvement this Month

Efficiency. I’ve been taking way too long to complete tasks due to indecisiveness and distractibility. Time to re-focus!

Things I am Looking Forward To (in the next 30 days)

  • Beginning to teach on stage with my Body Attack mentor
  • Helping to launch the new Body Attack 83 release
  • Our first holiday season with Thomas
  • Christmas visitors! {Andrew, Martha, Logan, and Candice}

  3. Potatoes are seriously underestimated- glad to see them back on the plate ;) I used to love nudie juice- just the plain ones (none of those strange coloured ones!) I’ll have to grab a bottle next time I’m in store. How do you find the activia? I’ve been stuck on chobani for ages!

    Can’t wait to see how these new classes go for you- and Thomas’ first Christmas! (No snow for him)

    Glad to hear potatoes are back on the menu for you :) I eat more sweet potatoes now than normal potatoes but still enjoy them.

    I love my yoghurt with mix ins too for my dessert! It is so so good.

  7. I love yogurt for a sweet treat alternative too! I usually do coconut yogurt with a tbsp of almond butter or dark chocolate dreams swirled in and topped with a little granola. Mmmm! I also love Sarah’s blog. She’s a beaut :)

  9. I love the way you broke down this post! “Areas for improvement” is a good way to accomplish a goal, I’ve been trying that as well! Also- I’ve never considered chocolate chips in yogurt. What a simple and good idea!

  10. I’ve been considering the Lunar Glides — do they run true to size, or big/small?

      Hey Hillary! I’d say they run relatively true to size.
      Just as an idea: I am an 8.5 in Asics runners, but an 8 in the Lunar Glides.

      The thing about the new ones is that the laces are built ‘around’ the shoe, so when you tie it, it pulls up on the sides for a more comfortable and secure feel around your entire foot. Kind of hard to explain, but you’ll see if you try on a pair.

      • Just tried some on… I am b/w a 6.5 and 7… but might go with the 7 because of what you said about the laces. My toe is right to the edge in the 6.5 — thanks!
